Solutions of Model Question set 'A'
1. Why is advanced educational degree always not an indicator of intelligence? (What is Intelligence anyway?)
In simple meaning intelligence is the ability or capacity to do the given work skillfully or successfully. it is the caliber of a person to solve the problem easily. In case of intelligence, educational degree doesn't become all in all as the write Issac Asimov has pointed out in the essay "What is Intelligence Anyway?"  It is relative thing not absolute concept. Intelligence is more related tote capacity than education and post. Sometimes maturity, experiences and day-to-day exercise an uneducated person can be more intelligent than educated one in some cases. We can cite the example referring to the event happened with writer itself. While the writer used to think to his auto repair man below the normal intelligence score because he had got maximum score in aptitude taste (180 normal was 80). But with one question "How could a blind man ask for scissors with the shopkeeper". The writer was be fooled by auto-repairman. From his real personal experience the writer draws the conclusion that intelligence is a relative concept, everyone is perfectly intelligent in his/ her subject or working area. Where advanced education degree always does not matter a lot in case or intelligence. More education cannot always been an indicator of intelligence for the writer, Asimov.

The house doesn't find any reason his master stopping in those cold, but attractive woods. It gives bell making conscious to its master to accomplish his long dutiful journey. The speaker becomes agree with horse that he should move on to keep his commitments he has made. He has to do many more things before he sleep, not to stay there any longer.

3. Apply the four levels of meanings to "A 1996 Commencement Speech" given by Salman Rushdie.
Literal Comprehension: "A 1996 Commencement Speech" is a graduation speech given by a famous Indian born writer, Salman Rushdie to the students of Bard College, New York in 1996. He was given honorary degree by Bard College on that occasion. While giving speech Rushdie remembers of his graduation day, 1968 from Cambridge University. A few nights before of his graduation some unknown persons threw bucketful gravy-onion in his room. Salman was accused for this fault and punished. Again, when he had gone to graduation program with brown shoes he was rejected asking to wear black shoes. At the neck hour of ceremony he had to return for black shoes. In the ceremony also he had to kneel down to ask for degree in Latin language with Vice-Chancellor. He did as authority ordered him. When he was giving this speech he repented saying that he shouldn't have paid up, should not have changed the shoes and should not have knelt down. Doing compromise, he did crime accepting injustice and domination, Rushdie said due to his three years hard work and parents' investment he was qualified to get B.A. degree not freely given by university.
Rushdie pointed out that Irani leader declared his death notice but he was saved by Bard College. Talking about any supreme authority and power, Rushdie said even god has done many crimes and cruelties. God has not created the world and human beings rather people have created Him. Because of people's belief and mercy there is the existence of god. Arachne, Prometheus had challenged the misdeeds of gods. There could be money-god, power-god, etc. If gods do crimes over humans, why to respect them. Being radical Rushdie encouraged students that we must be guided by our personal will or personal nature. If possible, we should follow our better natures than bad one.
Interpretation: This speech given by one of the renowned scholars of the world might be advocating the call for freedom of expression. It points out that everyone should be guided by her personal nature-possible by batter nature. By any condition one shouldn't bow down and follow others domination and order. As Salman Rushdie accepted the order for dead rules he repented for that later. It might be questioning about the existence of god and His power. God Himself has done a lot of crimes so they are because of our faith but not the god has created us. Freedom and right can't be achieved by mercy, begging and bow down rather by snatching. It also encourages to all to fight against any unfair authority injustice and domination. Obedience and tolerance can't be the ways to freedom rather defiance (protest) are revolt and inevitable.
Critical Thinking: This essay as a speech has given a full credit for action done in accordance to human nature. It has opened up the eyes of people/ public to evaluate everything reasonably. Compromise to any domination is a crime. This philosophy for personal right and freedom is ok. Still some disagreeable points can be raised here. Can we always go against all types of systems? Can defiance always become constructive tool to freedom? Are not there other goods beside Greeks Gods? But the message of revolt against injustices can’t be discarded fully.
Assimilation: After going through this speech I got shock. Sooner I went 10 years back in my school days. When I was studying in class five I had to face a bitter criticism of my class teacher. Any of the boys of our class had written pornographic (rough) sentences on the wall of the classroom. When the teacher came into classroom, the accusation came over me because other boys were clever. I was innocent then, so I couldn’t defend at all. Now I regret myself about it, I wish should have defended against it at the right moment. I should have told directly the teacher about my non-involvement in that work. I should have fought against the injustice that I had to accept them.

Discuss whether the arranged marriages are the declining among the educated professional classes of India on the basis of Serena Nanda’s research essay.
Professor of Anthropology from New York Dr. Serena Nanda has visited to India for her research and study. When she happened to face strong ethics of arranged marriage, she became much more surprised and angry. She directly rejected the arranged marriage system where life partner was selected by parents or guardians. With her many visits and studies about Indian arranged marriage systems, she was fully influenced form them. She herself started to work as a matchmaker and ultimately became successful in her mission. As he has presented in her essay “Arranging a marriage in India” arranged marriage are not declined rather dramatically increased or at least rested on fixed level as a strong ethical system in India.
According to Nanda, there are many more advantages in Indian arranged marriages and disadvantages. Her comparisons between US marriage and Indian marriages also show that India marriages are more durable, happy, better and full of love and affection, By reading her research based essay we can’t find any declining symptoms in arranged marriages in India.
There are unique cultural or rituals, activities. Boundaries, rules and regulations that have keep arranged marriage as an ideal system in India. With this idealness all Indian cultural systems are so permanent and strong that there are more advantages and positive aspects than negative ones. Parents are equally responsible for children’s marriages, class, and level reputation, standard everything is checked and tested well before fixing the candidates. From this the marriage process is proceeded. That is why there is almost happy and luxurious life after marriage. Even any class’s people and intellectuals follow their unique and stand marriage traditions. Among the educated professional classes as well there is positive impression and implications of this marriage system in India. We can’t find any sign of declining of this system of marriage. The writer has focused on the glory, image and standard ethics of arranged marriages of India in this essay. So we hardly even guess that there is a declining pace of arranged marriages among Indians in general and among educated professional class’s people in particular.
Thus from Dr. Nanda’s essay and other socio-cultural and anthropological studies we can be clear that this arranged marriage system is strongly rested in Indian culture. For all classes educated and uneducated and levels of people have mostly positive impact of arranged marriage. They have also adopted this system of marriage most of the cases.
4. What do you think Cabuliwallah and Elaine were treated as “Perpetual outsiders”? What are the similarities and differences in their situations?
When other persons don’t behave you equal and think as others, it is condition of being ‘outsider’. If such discrimination is going on for long time it is called a “perpetual outsider.” Both Rahman, Cabuliwallah in Calcutta from Kabul, Afghanistan and Elaine in USA from Korea have got similar experiences.
Both Cabuliwallah and Elaine were treated as perpetual outsiders. Cabuliwallah was not treated equally in India and cheated by the natives, Even Mini’s mother doubted and disliked him a lot. Similarly, when Elaine went into her classroom, the classmates treated badly telling “Chink” and “Jap”. Even the mother of her classmate didn’t allow her to go there. In case of Cabuliwallah he has been separated from his Kabul’s culture and staying in Calcutta. He is also getting different types of experiences being isolated from his lovely daughter, Parvati, wife and society.in normal quarrel he was sent to jail for eight rears. Cabuliwallah situation touches our heart as an outsider and separated from original land, culture and people.
On the other hand Elaine Kim’s situation is also like of Cabuliwallah to some extent. She is behaved as an outsider in American and gets many insults from the native White Americans. Her originality is Korean. Elaine seems struggling in USA to establish herself as a cheerleader whereas Cabuliwallah is struggling to feed her family in Calcutta, the vision of Elaine seems broader than that of Cabuliwallah. Elaine wants to motivate all migrants to fight against racism and sexism. She wants to create her own cultural identity. Whereas Cabuliwallah’s vision is narrow, He is busy in selling goods and earning money for survival. Comparatively Elaine has got more, discrimination and insults than Cabuliwallah.
Cabuliwallah has converted his daughter’s love in Mini and thought her as her own daughter. Cabuliwallah goes in jail for eight years. This is not same with Elaine. The ending the story shows his returning to his family and daughter. But the ending of the essay “Then and Now Finding My Voice” Kim determines to fight against discrimination and sexism. Thought there is surface condition, is difference between Cabuliwallah and Elaine Kim but real inner sentiment and the core of problem is same the feeling of being “perpetual outsiders”.
5. Write an essay about the benefits of higher education for you personally and how it would positively contribute to your society. (You many refer to ideas presented in “Why Go to University”?)
It is the education that brings knowledge, it is the knowledge that brings awareness, it is the awareness that brings changes, development and satisfaction in the individuals. This is possible by taking university education actually. There can have ample advantages of taking university education personally, socio-culturally and in general.
When one gains university education, the person has higher social standard, he started to get different respects from others and with his high income due to qualification he lives a happy life. Higher education also becomes a guardian (as an individual) that helps to avoid a number of socio-cultural individual and economic problems. It also helps trying to find out appropriate solutions for them. Another direct individual benefit of university Education is a sound health which is possible by higher education. “If you lost money nothing is lost, but if you lost your health everything is lost”. To save or maintain sound health university education becomes a key. Again, the educated person has widened mental horizon who compares different cultures, developments and systems so that he will get more ideas and life skills. By education, one becomes independent or self-dependent. After being personally perfect the person becomes qualified to solve social problems as well.
As a social creature, human being cannot change society and wipe out various evils of the society without University Education. Higher Education becomes the best tool to make free, non-discriminated, equal, ideal and up-warding society.
For the improvement of society, different social problems are to be solved. For this skillful, educated and noble citizens are needed which is possible by higher education. The condition of earth, out surrounding, our generation and upcoming generation, natural resources and our social cultural activities and protection all are possible with the help of higher education. There are social functions or contributions of University Education.
So, University Education is the basic agent that is useful to construct noble citizen in particular and noble society and country as well as the world in general.

When I was young boy of 10 years old. I did have friend Rinasa who was Then 9 years old. We were best friends so, we used to do many activities together. 8. What are the essential features of the body of an essay? What is SAFER that contributes to the well-formed body of an essay? Prepare a response citing examples from any of the extracts from the text.
An essay is a well-organized presentation of ideas which can be written in different styles. Normally, there are three parts or an essay can be divided into three parts the introduction: the body and the conclusion. The body of an essay is the main part which has covered almost all essay is the main part which has covered almost all essay is the main part which has covered almost all explanations, analyses, illustrations and many more to proved the ideas raised in the thesis statement or in the introduction. The body of an essay must have organization, well balanced ideas, enough explanation so that specific conclusion can be drawn easily.
The body of an essay may have different paragraph and includes information that support the thesis statement. These information may be presented in different forms. To form the overall body of an essay SAFER plays a vital role. Here “s” means “Statistics” which are necessary to give more ideas about the subject ‘A’ means “Anecdotes’ that presents a real case event that provides further illustration of the ideas. The third form of information is ‘F’ this means ‘fact’ and that stands of ‘Examples’ which are necessary to make complex ideas easier and unclear ideas clear. And lastly ‘R’ stands for ‘Reasons’ without which an argumentative, cause and effects or whatsoever essay can’t be of standard. In short, Statistics, Anecdotes, Facts, Examples or Reasons (SAFER) is all in all aspect of the body of any essay. We can’t imagine any essay without this form of information in the body part of the essay.
A response from the chapter “Students shall not Download, Yeah, Sure”:
Who will pay cash and expensive amount if the music videos films are available without paying? Still, it is an illegal as well as immoral work. Citing Kant, Mill and Aristotle we can find the conclusion that downloading without paying is more immoral than moral work. I do also have idea that it is immoral and illegal more than vice versa. Producers have invested a huge amount of money, the artists consume a valuable time and various people to prepare a single music do a number of works. But, if one gets easy access to Internet to downloads and accumulate a pile of music and films without cost is fully illegal and immoral activity. No doubt, poor students any be benefited much economically but more than benefits there is global loss. The solution can be the cut off piece of music should be put in Internet. If one wants to have complete version he/ she will buy it by any cost. To be happy in few number of people making, a thousand weeping is not good to me. There must be strong check and balance in piracy of music down loading without permission of copyright.
9. Write an essay reviewing a book you have recently read or a movie you have watched. Apply the basic five paragraph rules of essay writing with introduction body and conclusion of the essay.
Film Review: “Duniyan”
A recently watched film “Duniyan” has presented a transparent picture of Nepali society full of gender discrimination and biasness to daughters or females. Among various colors of discriminations a golden hope has been emerged that there is a realization among the misdeeds in this film. This realization of bad works of discrimination has taught the lesson to respect and give equal priority to female in our homes, society and in the country.
Major acting has been done by Bhuwan K.C., Mithila Sharma along with other actors like Nikhil, Dinesh Sharma, Rekha Thapa, Laxmi Giri, etc. The film has provided a maximum level of awareness against the gender discrimination exercised on our society. We do similar exercised against our sisters, sister-in-law, etc. Mostly, the monomaniac grandmother who focused sons as the children of the family. The hero, Bhuwan K.C.'s once mistake in misunderstanding his wife's condition made him repent through out of the life. Mithila Sharma as a Thuliaama has performed a noble duty who reared, encouraged and let Niruta be a nurse lastly. There was a hidden secret of selling Kidney from father for Nirutia's education made Bhuwan free form his crime. Due to unexposed reality Niruta is ever negative to her father.
There are picture of evil gangs who are mostly following negative lines of life. Rekha Thapa become the results of mistake. There are a number of corrections in the attitudes, behaviours and the roles of plus-minus actors. Thuliaama's realization of value of daughter, Rekha's knowing of invaluable contribution of her father and Rekha's knowing of invaluable contribution of her father and Rekha's realization of pure love and romance are some colors of reality picture of society. Nikhil's gang and been corrected and adjusted into creative path seems another good side of the film "Duniyan".
"Duniyan" as name indicates represents the real go of world. While everything of the world is changing negative thinking and evil exercises are also corrected with the fluid of time and realization. The bitter beginning of the film turns into surprise middle and happy ending. The real life is fully reflected in the film by the end. "Duniyan" has the meaning as 'public''life', 'society' and we all people. The actors in the film "Duniyan" represent our attitudes and our behaviors.
"Duniyan" film is a mixture of good and bad aspect to bring the good result. The strong dialogues, that represent whole theme of our life. "Gali nagarne manchhe", 'Chot nakhayeko manchhe' and 'narasayekaaankha' don't have any value in our life. Anyway there is a message to change the negative towards positive one.
10. What should an employee do if he knows that his boss is doing something illegal? Should he "blow the whistle" on his boss and risk losing his job, or should he keep it to himself and endanger the company or the public? Write an essay that discusses the moral aspects of each decision.                                                         10
Would you like to fire from the job or continue it? It is not easy to get fired from the job because after this you are jobless. You have to spend many hours or days in searching for job. As your conscience requests you don't tolerate the crime and don't lie at all. You are in dilemma what to do and what not to do.
As an employee he has to even surrender pretending not seeing the crime. If he follows Kant's maxims he shouldn't tell a lie so, he has to pretend not seen. Again, if he follows Mill's philosophy of happiness to others, there are two solutions. One he and all public will get benefited and be happy only single person will be sad if reality is exposed. Again, there is unhappiness with employee because he will soon get fired. Sometimes he thinks the job is more important than his moral work putting against his boss. If he is self-centered he, might say, "Why should I do responsible to everything and everybody?"
But if he likes to prove himself a noble citizen of his nation and shows his responsibility, he should go against his boss. If he gets fired but a number of public and company itself will improve, there is more utility from Mill's point of view. Many more will be benefited and happy so telling about his crime is good. We have to do in accordance to our conscience or mind. There can be another alternative that if he (employee) is dismissed from the company or punished for his but opening the secret crime, he will get next job many get satisfaction and benefited. If he doesn't fight against such illegal works, how can we make our society good?
I am young energetic and confident person. If me like person surrender upon crime and become the followers of injustice when will our society be healthy and prosperous? How can we wipe/ out injustices from the nook and corner of our society? So, boldly, I will make decision to flash his criminal act and go further action against him with other staffs of company. No doubt, I am fully confident that the ultimate loss to me will be my job only. I will be my job only. I will be satisfied along with many public from my work.
